Generally it has been a good two weeks. I got to see the pruhealth triathlon, Carnaby Street, Hyde Park, and Regents Park in the past of couple of days. All of which are amazing. I still have to say my favorite park in Zone 1 we will say is Saint James Park. The Pruhealth traithlon was actually really cool cause at one point you could see the cycling, running and swimming parts. There were people from all over the world. I got to talk to Americans, Canadians, Brits, and even Romanians.<br />

I eat, I sleep, I eat, I sleep that is what I do with my days now. Actually I have been trying to become more settled with London. The hard part is to get a cell phone, one has to have a UK bank account. To get a UK bank account, one has to have a letter from their school. To get a letter from the school, one has to register tomorrow. I really hope that I can get a phone soon, then I won't get lost as much as I do now.<br />

I have to say I really love London. I love all the surprises of being here. All of the people are very friendly, and everywhere you go there is something to be amazed at.carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-348930983068195433.post-4655241056879431532013-09-08T00:39:00.001-07:002013-09-08T00:39:49.172-07:00Moving InBefore reading this post, since I don't really want to reveal names and such. Roommate is whom I share a room with and will be calling her that from now on. Flatmate is the girl right next door in another room, which is what I will be calling her from now on.<br />
<br />
Well I have had an eventful two days, which include furnishing, cleaning and meeting. First of all, my beginning moments of being a resident did not go at all like planned, but frankly, I was too tired to care. My flight got in around 2 am, which means customs was really long. I didn't get through until about 3. I got a taxi to my hotel, and went and took a long shower. By the time I went to asleep it was around 3:45 am. Needless to say you would think I slept in until noon. No, my internal clock was like, "YOUR NOT JETLAGGED LETS WAKE UP AT 7," stupid body... I decided to relax that morning before taking on the venture of going to find the bus to take me back to the airport, so I could catch a bus into town. The bus was only just across the road from the hotel, one problem, they didn't mention the road was over the hill yonder. I found the bus, nonetheless. I made it to the airport and caught my bus into London. Stansted airport is about an hour away from London. The british country side is absolutely gorgeous, so one could say it wasn't a bad bus ride. I got into Liverpool station, in which I had no idea which way to go. I wandered around until I saw a sign that said "Bethnal Green that way," forty minutes later in the pooring rain I made it to my apartment. I talked to the reception, I signed a contract, I got the key, I came in, I took a nap. I decided after this that I needed to buy some food. I went to the store, got some breakfasty items and a premade dinner seeing that I had no idea what was actually in my apartment. I came back and my roommate and flatmate were both here! My roommate is from Brazil, she is very nice and fun. My other flatmate is from the Netherlands, she is also very<br />

friendly. We have been getting along great so far, and I believe we will all be good friends by the end of this. My roommate will be attending Hult with me. My flatmate, however, is here on an internship. That night we got to know each other, and the apartment. Since my flatmate had been here for a couple of days she knew that my roommate and I didn't have pillows, or bed spreads, or blankets. So she took us to a Primark (the most amazing store ever), and we got all the furnishing (that we absolutely needed). We came back, and crashed.<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y2Y23s-0oWA/Uiwo90ShLpI/AAAAAAAAAoI/5BuajYifzF8/s1600/IMG_1584.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-y2Y23s-0oWA/Uiwo90ShLpI/AAAAAAAAAoI/5BuajYifzF8/s200/IMG_1584.JPG" width="150" /></a>The next day, I decided to go to Primark to buy some hangers, and other things I needed. They have everything from hangers, to purses, to makeup, to clothes all for very cheap! Well London cheap, but that is ok. I came back and then my roommate and I went out and bought more food that we needed and went to a stationary store to get things like pens, paper, tape, scissors. We also got the largest medium sized coffee ever, from Costa. I was very surprised because everybody says, "American larges are too large," but this was huge! When we came back to the apartment, our flatmate was here. We decided what we were going to do about the kitchen, and we decided that the apartment needed a nice cleaning. It was so grossss, ew! So we cleaned for about an hour, and it feels a lot better. However, the cleaning is not done. Today is a new day though, and it started out by my making tea and eating a chocolate croissant. I have to say not a bad start!carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-348930983068195433.post-60335369909769782602013-09-06T07:25:00.003-07:002013-09-06T07:25:21.628-07:00<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I think I have fallen in love with this city, everything from people to pub grub. This city is enchanting, and I am so excited to be living in it. Right now I report to you from a small hotel outside of Heathrow, it seems more like a sea bunk. It makes writing this rather interesting, it makes it seems like a should be writing Gulliver's Travels. Well to start the story of Carli's Travels, we made it to London on a rather cloudy day, not much different than any other day. We were staying at the Great Eastern, a fantastic hostel just outside of London near Canary Wharf. We stayed and had dinner at the pub below the hostel, and it was all good fun. We were in a nine bed mixed dorm, which actually turned out to be fantastic. I met some great people, three were from the States, one from Russia, one from South Africa, and one from Poland. The others in the room I did not meet so I wouldn't know. It was a really fun experience, everybody was really nice, and I would definitely stay there again. It is also in a fantastic locations, about twenty minutes to Tower Hill and about five minutes from Greenwich. We spent our next day roaming the streets of London from the Tower of London, all the way, to Millenium Bridge. On the way we stopped at St. Paul's Cathedral, and one of the oldest gothic churches in England.<br />

All I have to say is Estonia should be on everybody's list of places to go before you die because it is absolutely spectacular.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FIjcmyHDsrw/Ug5jlcpY8lI/AAAAAAAAAj0/7C6VBglxiX0/s1600/IMG_1288.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-FIjcmyHDsrw/Ug5jlcpY8lI/AAAAAAAAAj0/7C6VBglxiX0/s200/IMG_1288.JPG" width="150" /></a>When I wrote the two sentences above was probably about three days ago, and things have definitely changed. I have left Tallinn and Helsinki, and I am now in the beautiful city of London. We arrived yesterday in the evening at Gatwick Airport (quite a dodgy airport). For a future hint, if you don't have to travel Norwegian Air save yourself the trouble. You don't even get complementary water, yes they expect you to die of dehydration for 3 hours.<br />
We rode the trains from Gatwick to Milton Keynes a quaint town north of London. We stayed with my friend's relatives. The train was long, however, everybody was so helpful and kind. Our hosts were so kind, and very accommodating. It was the first time I had ever tried a crumpet and they are addictive. I am going to become fat here, just by eating crumpets. We went to bed completely sore because we also had to carry my two heavy suitcases both weighing around 50 pounds. Both of them weigh around the same weight as my travel companion. So now we are bruised and sore, and glad to be rid of them. The next day, which is today, we woke up and ate a traditional english breakfast.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf0nhz7IYZI/Ug5pMsksrdI/AAAAAAAAAks/A8h5DwIquFg/s1600/photo+%25286%2529.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Sf0nhz7IYZI/Ug5pMsksrdI/AAAAAAAAAks/A8h5DwIquFg/s200/photo+%25286%2529.JPG" width="149" /></a></div>
It was completely delicious, then we went and walked through the town with their especially cute dog, Jasper. It was such a stereotypic old English town, and it was adorable. We walked along the picturesque countryside, and it seemed like the perfect life. Soon after we went to a Carvery, which is where you get delicious slow roasted meats and vegetables. It was delicious. We sadly had to say goodbye to our hosts, although I will be seeing them again to get my bags. We rode the train into London, now we are at our hostel. For being booked last minute the hostel is great. It is in a good part of london and the service is fantastic. We are roomed with some nice people, well I have only met two. One ran out of the room once he saw us, the other is a nice polish guy who is here to meet up with old colleagues. Overall, I am quite excited to be in London and can't wait to start exploring it!<br />

I love it here! The architecture is intricate and stunning. There is nothing like a medieval town to brighten ones spirits. I find myself listening to purely classical music, and trying to imagine the streets 300 years ago. Some places I would definitely say to cover while you are in Tallinn would be.<br />
<br />
1) Go to Old Hansa, it is a delicious restaurant in which you can eat like a barbarian (no silverware). Drink delicious, dark, honey beer all by candlelight.<br />
2)Go to a restaurant on the main square ask to use the bathroom, cause one of them has a bathroom in a chimney and it is pretty darn cool.<br />
3)Go to all the cool churches<br />
4) Go to the wall, there is a place where you can try on chain mail and hold medieval weapons.<br />
5) Go to the oversee of the city (most amazing views)<br />
6) I am going to go eat some more XD<br />
<br />
Sorry this is short, but I hope it satisfies. <br />

After battling the jetlag (which has proven to be very strong this time), I finally got to see the city. My days have been filled with delicious food (including chocolate), and good company. My hosts have been very kind, and entertaining me all week, for which I am very grateful. Soon, my friend will be here (my hosts are her parents) which will make this whole situation even better. It seems like I have been here a lot more than a week because I have done a lot more than I usually do in Colorado in a month.<br />
In the land of the midnight sun, I still go to sleep around three and wake up around eleven. This jetlag has put up an awe-inspiring fight, however, it will soon be defeated. The days that I have spent in Helsinki have been fantastic. My hosts taking me to the city and showing me around. To say the least Helsinki is one of the most modern, yet, winsome cities I have been in. Some streets are filled with fashion boutiques, and the most hip design stores. Others, are cobblestone streets with the harbor to one side and a charming market on the other. To say the least, Helsinki, should be on everybody's Bucket List. Since this computer doesn't have a place to read a sim card, and I can't find where I put the charger for the PC I will simply have to put photos from Google. Don't worry I am getting a SD USB reader, hopefully, soon.<br />

<span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><br /></span><span style="font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;"> The city of Helsinki is filled with beauty and fun things behind every corner. <span style="font-family: Times, Times New Roman, serif;"><span lang="fi" style="line-height: 19.1875px;" xml:lang="fi"> Also, my hosts, were kind enough to take me to a charming town west of Helsinki called Turku. Turku is a very interesting town with an medieval church and castle. There is no way to describe this town except for a fantastic weekend get-a-way. Although we were only there for a couple hours, it was still well worth it. I will write more about it, once I can upload my pictures, and explain more thoroughly. Well that is it for now, hope whomever reads this is enjoying</span><span style="line-height: 19.1875px;"> my adventures. Well after some sad goodbyes and hours of flying I am
finally in Helsinki, Finland. I haven’t been here too long and I haven’t gotten
to see too much! However, from what I can tell it is an enchanting country. I
left Denver International Airport around five o’clock, and arrived in Reykjavik
at 6 o’clock in the morning the next day. Iceland was really foggy and I could
barely see ten feet past the window, however, the airport was really nice. The
small airport was refreshing due to the fact that most airports could almost be
considered small cities themselves. Iceland air was a fantastic airline to go
with. The planes were smaller, which caused the trip to be a little bumpier,
however, you weren’t on a plane with hundreds of people. <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span><o:p></o:p></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J94bueE8ENA/Ue72e88QZaI/AAAAAAAAAgk/xJDgMCcJlG4/s1600/photo+(1).JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J94bueE8ENA/Ue72e88QZaI/AAAAAAAAAgk/xJDgMCcJlG4/s200/photo+(1).JPG" width="150" /></a></div>
The flight attendants
were very kind and friendly. The only down side is that one has to pay to get
food, I didn’t get anything on the plane for the reason that plane food usually
makes me want to go die in a corner of the plane. I had about twenty minutes in
Reykjavik before boarding my flight to Helsinki. I arrived in Helsinki around 2
o’clock, took a nap before four o’clock. Now I am up around 4 o’clock in the morning.
I have a feeling like myself and jetlag may be at war. The hardest part is
right now at 4 AM the sun has already risen and so has every bird. There
squawks echo throughout the room, making me not want to go to sleep even
more.<br />

<span style="mso-tab-count: 1;"> </span>Helsinki
really is a unique city, not only because of the climate. I have only been here
a couple of hours, and I was asleep for about half of them, but one can
definitely tell that it has certain happiness about it. At the airport I was
trying to find a luggage cart, much to my dismay I found a broken one. Some men
helped me carry my bags out to where I was meeting my friend’s I am staying with.
Then on the bus a woman with two adorable children started talking to us. It
seems like small things that do happen everywhere, however, this little things
made my day. The city itself has architecture like I have never seen. It is a
mix of modern and early nineteen hundreds. It is truly a spectacular city. The
Finnish language is an extremely adorable and yet difficult language to learn.
Just listening to the tid bits I have only picked up was how to say “Thank
you,” and I have already forgotten. <o:p></o:p></div>

The excitement is becoming almost too much for me! I will be getting my UK tier 4 General Student Visa tomorrow! Which, also, includes my passport! I was quite worried for a little bit due to the fact that to get my visa I needed to send my passport to New York, and in order to go to Helsinki I needed my passport. Now that is all cleared up, and I am clear for take off! Excuse my strange pun. I don't have much else to report on...... I will keep you updated once I get there ;)carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-348930983068195433.post-8045105439786249552013-07-08T10:53:00.001-07:002013-07-08T10:53:25.856-07:00Visa time!I have had the most stressful two weeks of my life. First on Friday I went to an old housemate's wedding. It was one of the most gorgeous ceremonies I have ever seen. They were quite adorable and everything seemed perfect. Then I had to leave early, much to my dismay and leave for my cousin's wedding. My friend Anna and I drove throughout the night and got to the wedding just in time the next day. It too was also a beautiful ceremony and wedding. It was nice to see all of my relatives for the last time before I left. Now I am sitting at an Einstein's Bagels waiting for my visa appointment. Throughout these weddings I have also been frantically collecting documents so that I can get my visa in time. Today though is the last day. I am taking my biometrics (fingerprints, facial scans, etc.) and then I will be leaving for Helsinki in two weeks. It is strange to thing that I only have one more weekend left in America. The bittersweet sense of saying of goodbye has kicked in, but also the excitement of a whole new chapter. I cannot believe that for the next four years I will be living in London. One of the world's biggest metropolis's will be at my disposal. I am still quite nervous for many things including that I still don't have a flat/house there. I have been looking around and London gives a new meaning to expensive. The next two weeks, I have a feeling are going to give my nerves a run for their money, but hey that is what adventure is! carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-348930983068195433.post-75482792453780972492013-06-23T12:46:00.003-07:002013-06-23T13:55:13.595-07:00Always a StrangerI know it has been awhile. So I have some exciting news since two easters ago! I survived my senior year, strangely enough. I am now a high school graduate!<br />

Now I am on my way to London for university! <span style="background-color: white; color: #555555; font-family: inherit; font-size: 13px; line-height: 21.984375px;">I cannot believe that only a year ago I was saying goodbye to all of my friends in Romania, and saying hello to my friends in America. Now I am saying goodbye to America and going to London! My excitement cannot be expressed in words, however, this time is different. I was excited to go to Romania, but I knew I had to return to the states. Now I don’t know who I will ever see again. There are people that I have become closely acquainted with that I may I never see again. I don’t know when I will see anybody again, and I have made so many good friends. I leave in 28 days. I only have 28 days to say goodbye. Wish me luck.</span>carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-348930983068195433.post-35480541195912648472012-04-17T02:56:00.000-07:002012-04-17T02:56:37.338-07:00Paste FericitHello to everybody again. Well this is the third day of Easter in Romania. This was probably my favorite holiday here. First we went to the church the night before, and we listened to the ceremony and lit the candles. The "high" priest of valcea was there, he is 96 years old. I was really surprised to see him. Also about 200-300 romanians there and it was so interesting and amazing to see.<br />

Today is Good Friday, but the Romanians call it Big Friday. Well it has been an interesting week. The week starts out with Flower day or Palm Sunday. First off, on Palm/Flower Sunday anybody with the name that has to do with Flowers is celebrated, including Floryn. That is the only name I know that has to do with flowers. Also we got to see the priests of Ramnicu Valcea "march" or "parade" however you would call it around to all of the different churches<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L4DTTDxHjls/T4fEHRQyX0I/AAAAAAAAAdY/BDg0D_akjs4/s1600/Romania+Ipod+026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-L4DTTDxHjls/T4fEHRQyX0I/AAAAAAAAAdY/BDg0D_akjs4/s320/Romania+Ipod+026.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The guy with a crown on his<br />

</tbody></table>Other than that though I didn't get to see much of the church services offered throughout the week. I also went to a Catholic celebration of Easter. I didn't get any pictures of that, but hey it's the same as in the states, however there were the cutest cats outside the Church. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Il3NoA8dk7w/T4fEFYqOy_I/AAAAAAAAAdI/6BB0AQyRTLs/s1600/Romania+Ipod+007.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Il3NoA8dk7w/T4fEFYqOy_I/AAAAAAAAAdI/6BB0AQyRTLs/s320/Romania+Ipod+007.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><div><br />
My God those are the times when I want to steal one and bring it back to the states :D<br />
<br />
Also, this week, I have a lot of times to hang out with my friends here which is awesome. Yesterday, I got to make brownies with one of my friends Martha.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gmu0WpYBxAw/T4fFFNczNdI/AAAAAAAAAds/LJEsnKMmy2E/s1600/527434_382941011728493_100000377931496_1229437_2061135574_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gmu0WpYBxAw/T4fFFNczNdI/AAAAAAAAAds/LJEsnKMmy2E/s320/527434_382941011728493_100000377931496_1229437_2061135574_n.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>Yummyyyy. They turned out great! I did this with no measuring cups and not all of the ingredients. I am so proud of myself. This week has been pretty great actually. Everything is going normally, and Valcea is as pretty as ever. Tomorrow I begin the Easter cooking, which I am excited for! Although all of the cakes have already been started. I know traditional Romanian food for Easter is sarmale, mamaliga, and lamb. Sarmale (which I love) is meat cabbage roles. Mamaliga is polenta and is usually served with some sort of cheese/sour cream mixture. For Easter it is tradition to sacrifice a lamb, however not all families do this. They sure do love to eat it though! Wish me luck with this weekend I might be so fat, I cannot get on the plane.<br />

The weeks are going by faster and faster. Each passing day I want another to stay. Everything has been great lately. Making new friends, eating, and school nothing to much. This week in Romania they have a "different week of school." This is where the students plan a week of fun with their teachers. Granted most of the time we're just confused, it has been fun.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Spring is Here!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Since I haven't given an update since I switched host families, I would like to say that I love them very much! They are a very kind understanding family. They have two kids which are in America and in Switzerland now.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The week of fun<br />

</tbody></table>Another weird fact is that in the United States I know all of you are enjoying your time with break. Well here Easter is exactly a week later. I am very excited for Easter. The biggest religion in Romania is Eastern Orthodox. For Easter the people go to churches and light candles. I am excited, but I don't know the details. Another little thing I have picked up on is that they love to eat lamb... not too excited about that.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
Also on the last day of March it was Earth Day! It was very fun because from the hours 8:30 - 9:30 they turned the lights off in Valcea. A lot of the youth gathered in the main square to light candles. Interact and the Europe Direct put this on and there were some entertainment. It was all great fun :)<br />

Though sadly, this is the week I switch host families. I can not believe that 2/3 of my exchange are completely gone! Everyday I spend here I wish I could have five more. Well lately not too much has been happening just living normal life. I went to a party on Saturday set up by Interact called, "Step Up," Was a dance contest in which a ton of talented performers danced mostly hip hop. I had so much fun there! I'm always impressed by the things that they do at these dance competitions!<br />

</tbody></table>After a very crappy month, things are starting seem brighter and brighter. The snow is melting and people are generally happier. Valentines day was about a week or two ago, but Romanians don't celebrate Valentine's Day they celebrate Dragobete. It's the same idea except celebrated on the 24th. The exchange students and me went to a Rotary party for Dragobete. It was very interesting except we paid 10 lei for water O_O Water is usually like 1 lei haha oh well. There was a live band playing eighties music and there were plenty of people there. I can say we all had a good night....I think haha. Who couldn't have fun watching drunk Rotarians dance around to Jump haha. Also only on Dragobete can one get married for a single day! The mayor came by our party and married a bunch of the people there, it was soooooo sweet.<br />

Martisor is a Romanian celebration where boys give girls these cute little pins in honor of spring coming! It also has a lot of cute valentines day stuff there. It was nice to see people out and about again, after being frozen in the snow!<br />

<div><br />
</div><div>I actually strangely enough love airports, I don't know if it is the exciting feeling that comes with them or just the fact that you can people watch people from all over the world. I just recently got my tickets for my return flight to Durango and lets just say I am excited. I leave on July 4th and arrive in Durango July 5th, so I'll just barely miss my countries independence day!</div><div><br />
</div><div>I leave Bucharest July 4th at 6:20 am and will arrive in Frankfurt at 7:55 am. </div><div><br />

</div><div>I leave Chicago at 5:00 pm and arrive in Denver at 6:38 pm.</div><div><br />
</div><div>I leave Denver, July 5th, at 8:20 am and arrive in beautiful Durango 9:30</div><div><br />
</div><div>Now this isn't set in stone but I think I will keep it like this or try. If I do then there is a fairly good chance that I will be flying with my good friend Lexi all the way to Chicago! Also I can meet up with one of the mexicans, Marco, in Frankfurt. </div><div><br />
</div><div>I calculate my entire travel time though and it will be about 36 hours O_O</div><div>As long as I can find either a Tacos place or bagel I will be fine.....</div><div><br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Casa Toscana wondering what on<br />

</tbody></table>Today it has been exactly 5 months, basically my half way point. Even though I don't know my leave date yet.<br />
<br />
Well these have been the most interesting 5 months of my life I think. I am almost getting tired of "learning experiences" haha. I have gone through every emotion on the planet, and still I never regret coming. One really never knows how life will play out, but it's strange to think of the choices that got you to a certain point. The choices that got me to sitting in my room in Romania writing a post to inform all of the people in America that I'm still alive... SURPRISE!!!!<br />
<br />
<br />
Well these last ten days have, sadly, I have been putting forth effort for my return to America. :(<br />
I now I am signing up for classes in the states and lets just say my schedule doesn't seem fun, in fact, knowing I have to do everything when I get back is kind of scary. I take the classes AP english, AP franceza, AP US history, trig and functions, chemistry, and hopefully free periods! None of this is for sure, but I really really hope that, that is all I am taking :D<br />
<br />
I also am planning my plane ticket back, but I have no idea when I will be going back yet.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; margin-left: 1em; text-align: right;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The muppet dog<br />
SO CUTE</td></tr>
</tbody></table>I never thought I would EVER say this, but I really do miss the States. I have come to realize that just because it is amazingly uninteresting where I live, there are things that I love. I love my friends, my family, my animals and I am excited to see them again, but not that excited.<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I see what you did there<br />
hahaha</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Although I am excited to go home, I am not that excited I still have a half a year right! Overall things have been going pretty well, this weekend is the birthday of one of the exchange students Liz. Everybody wish her a happy birthday!<br />
<br />
I know this post is kind of random but it's a weird feeling being half way through. I feel like I am ready to go home and at the same time I feel like I need a lot more time! Although in the end I know I will miss the days of exchange a lot more than I miss the US right now. The time is going by way to fast, to fast to even think. January is already gone!<br />
<br />
Exchange wish: BE SPRING I WANT HEAT!<br />
Exchange wish: FLUENT IN ROMANIAN... haha<br />
The pictures are just from the last week :D<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">As you can imagine it was<br />

</tbody></table>Well it's not actually that fast. Life is setting into normal... I can't tell if that is a good thing because I am becoming accustomed to Romanian culture or bad thing because it's a lot easier to get bored.Well my life still continues to be interesting most of the time. Hanging out with friends, going to parties, tea house the whole shebang. This weekend was actually fairly interesting. My friend Renata took us to a Glow in the Dark Party at a club. It was so much fun, we got to meet her boyfriend and dance. <br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Oana and Renata with the tower game</td></tr>
</tbody></table><div style="text-align: center;">Earlier that day we went to Chez Marie with Oana and Renata. This was so much fun! Oana tried to teach us poker, I didn't understand. At least we can rule out a career in Vegas. They also played this game where you stack wooden blocks in rows of three and you try to take out a single one without tipping over the tower. I also lost at this game haha, It was so much fun, we also played many more card games. Later that night Lexi and I went out to eat at Toscanas yummmmmmmmmmmm.</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The week however has been pretty boring. School is school. Although now I'm pretty sure some of the teachers just like to insult us most of the time, now that I understand more. We're doing gymnastics in gym, which I can't do so that is interesting. The most interesting thing I think that has happened this week is I got information about EURO TOUR!!!!!!! So excited. I didn't get very much, but now I know where the tour is going. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">1. Ljubljana, Slovenia</div><div style="text-align: left;">2. Venice, Italy</div><div style="text-align: left;">3. <tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Valcea</td></tr>
</tbody></table>Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.... well I little bit late for that. Yesterday was one of the first times I saw snow in Valcea. Now it would be great, however I'm walking a mile into town and a mile back home in slush. Gross. Especially when your boots are black and not water proof, I call it reverse Michael Jackson syndrome 0_0.<br />
<br />
Haha well the last few weeks have been interesting. Not exactly the best, but you know it's life. One thing many people don't know about exchange isn't the most wondrous thing on the planet. After living here for almost 5 months, one tends to get bored.<br />
<br />
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: left; margin-right: 1em; text-align: left;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FPG0cKyZHFU/Tx_vGwIlXuI/AAAAAAAAAWM/KFITo_s15sQ/s1600/Winter+018.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="150" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-FPG0cKyZHFU/Tx_vGwIlXuI/AAAAAAAAAWM/KFITo_s15sQ/s200/Winter+018.JPG" width="200" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Renata</td></tr>
</tbody></table>School is interesting. Shelby and I now understand more in classes. Not really. We can usually pick up words and some what guess what they are saying. If we hear "Women", "Equality", "Start", "French Revolution" we have a pretty good guess that he's saying women's equality started with the french revolution. It's a lot harder sometimes cause you will get words that don't connect at all. Though there are classes that I can say that I don't like. I really really don't like. Some classes that I do like. Most of all though I LOVE breaks in between haha. I feel like my speaking romanian is really worse, and that I should be mute, but my understanding is improving. We also have a new friends in class. Sebastian (He's in Interact) and Renata. Renata is very awesome and she talks to us! Marta, Dre, and Teodora are all also doing well :)<br />
<br />
The other exchangers are also doing well. The other day due to the weather we almost walked a mile about in the rain. We were cold to say the least.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KQH2uKuEo0o/Tx_vIUwl4QI/AAAAAAAAAWc/JQ-ThS9_IEk/s1600/Winter+028.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-KQH2uKuEo0o/Tx_vIUwl4QI/AAAAAAAAAWc/JQ-ThS9_IEk/s200/Winter+028.JPG" width="150" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K_ut3bJSjCI/Tx_vHraW5qI/AAAAAAAAAWU/JVHWHt-3ax4/s1600/Winter+027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-K_ut3bJSjCI/Tx_vHraW5qI/AAAAAAAAAWU/JVHWHt-3ax4/s200/Winter+027.JPG" width="150" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</tbody></table>That's right there is a protest happening in Romania. "Revolutie in Romănia!" is all one hears now days. With protester lining the streets at night, and the news being covered in gruesome scenes in Bucharest one really has to wonder what happened? Romania government is a Republic and it's chief of state is President Traian Basescu. Currently, right now, the Romanian Economy has had a downturn; the rate of<br />

On January 12th the revolution started with the resignation of a highly respected government public health official Raed Arfarat, also the founder of the Romania's Emergency Medical Services. The protest started in the capital of Romania, Bucharest, and now has lasted a week and spread like wildfire. It is all across the country, even in my small town Ramnicu Valcea. President Basescu was elected December 20th of 2004 he was a, "Man of the people," but now people are frustrated with the public wage cuts, slashed benefits, higher taxes, cronyism in state institutions and widespread corruption.<br />

</tbody></table> By Sunday thousands of people were storming University Sqaure in Bucharest in protest. Over a dozen are injured and hospitalized including journalists, policemen, and protesters. The prime minister gave a speech about a new health-care bill after visiting a policeman who was hospitalized because a brick was thrown at his head. In Bucharest the protest has turned from a peaceful protest to a protest in which now the media can no longer cover it. The press was forced to leave University Square on Saturday, due to the violence. The news is filled with very disturbing scenes of violence and fires burning in the middle of the roads. Policemen throw tear gas and flares into the crowd. Things since then have calmed down. The Revolution in Ramnicu Valcea was significantly smaller and significantly more peaceful. The protester gathered around the main clock, or the city center square. They held signs and Romanian flags, and then they walked down the street. Overall it was a very eye opening experience to see the revolution; it shows how much Romania has suffered in the past couple of years. They have only been out of communism for 22 years and are still trying to get their feet back on the ground.carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-348930983068195433.post-25703557466879116622012-01-12T11:15:00.000-08:002012-01-12T11:15:12.118-08:00One week leftNow some of you guys might be thinking one week left until what?<br />

</tbody></table>Lots of you are probably thinking, "stop whining I'm already in school," but I still don't want to go! Three weeks of break have been so nice. So many hours spent at the tea shop or the mall. The holidays though were very interesting. Quick recap: Christmas all of the celebrating was done on Christmas eve, where I went to a party with my host family at a Rotarians house. I enjoyed but it was still very awkward. For about an hour the only interaction I had was them saying, "You understand romanian" O_O. Then after that they were questioning me about school. My bad, I don't know any of my teachers names. Christmas day my host father took me for a bike ride, it was nice bonding time, but awkward turtles were flying right<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">New Years Night</td></tr>
</tbody></table>next to me. For the week after christmas I hung out with Lexi a lot. We spent countless hours at the Chez Marie (The tea house) buying probably 50 lei worth of tea. I also got to see a friend of ours, Ilinca. I also met some new people, including one romanian who I had seen before at the Talent Show. She was a contestant and a very good one. For New Years we went with my host family and a Rotarian named Fredi. Shelby told me we were all supposed to meet at Fredi's house at 8:30. Lexi and I made plans to meet at Mcdonalds (two blocks away from his apartment) and walk there together. I went there and she wasn't there. She got there at eight which is when I walked to his apartment. I rang up his apartment and I talked with him, but I stupidly enough thought he said, "9 o'clock" (in romanian of course) when in reality he said "etajul noua" which means floor nine. I walked around in the cold for a half an hour in which I went to the main sqaure and watched some traditional romanian singing. I came back at 9 o'clock to which I Fredi tells me he thought the elevator dropped me haha. New Years with Lexi, Shelby, and Liz it turned out to be an awesome night. There was karaoke, in which the adults found lots of entertainment with us singing. Especially Liz haha. Also dancing and a lot of drinking. Now for reasons untold I feel extraordinarily close with one particular exchange student haha. Now it's has been two weeks since and I have been going along in life. Getting three packages from home haha. Also I got to meet my future host sister Diana, who goes to school in Switzerland, she is very nice. I have been really just chilling and enjoying life.<br />

Christmas in Romania is going great, but it's weird. It doesn't feel like Christmas. In America, we put up a Christmas tree a month before Christmas, and there are always Christmas movies on. Plus going to get Starbucks peppermint hot chocolate with my friends was a bonus also. While missing all of that one really does realize though how appreciative they are of things at home, and here. I wouldn't want to be anywhere else right now. I have come to love my new exchange family, the other girls in Valcea are my adopted sisters now. The kids in my class are all very kind, and they have been singing Christmas Carols for most of the week. Although being with my host family is new and awkward, all is going well. Ramnicu Valcea is lit up like no other city I have seen. There is a miniature market in the center, in which they sell this amazing round cake stuff that is covered in sugar. The only thing I would wish for now, is snow...<br />

Well it's three days till Christmas, and I have been making plans in preparation. Actually no I have been sitting here and saying yes to everybody else plans. I will be spending Christmas with my host family and their friends. For New Years I was supposed to go party with Interact for five days! Then Mr. President of the Rotary Club cancelled our fun. Now we're hoping to go see Lucky Man Project in a club here! Still excited for whatever I do!<br />
<br />
Well tomorrow I'm going to go Christmas shopping with Lexi, and then afterwards go ice skating :D. The ice skating rink is very cool because it is on top of the mall which is well over 5 or 6 stories. Although you will have to wish me luck, and I will probably need my Advil after this.carli.111http://www.blogger.com/profile/00473665298979779459noreply@blogger.com0
